A Day in the Life
trekking through the wilderness- making
our way along a dry creek bed. In front of us stands a large and seemingly
insurmountable cliff face. We are headed to a small stream which lies just
beyond the cliff. Daylight is fading fast. A decision must be made.
Activities such as geocaching and land navigation provide ample opportunities
for youth to explore group dynamics as individuals assume various roles within
the ever-changing group. Learner-centered education and experiential learning
promote an environment whereby youth participants feel confident as they assume
leadership roles and employ the ideas of fellow group members through a variety
of group-based processes such as brainstorming, conflict-resolution, and
compromise. As each day progresses the group begins to work together,
seamlessly, in search of a common goal. The concept of teamwork takes on a new
meaning.
